Dogs are amazing creatures that have been part of our lives since the dawn of man. They are loyal companions, playful friends, and faithful guardians. Regardless of how long you have been with your four-legged companion, it's equally as important to establishand maintain a healthy bond with your dog.

For new puppy owners it can be difficult at first to bond with such a feisty ball of energy, but there are simple and effective ways to do it. It might require some patience on your end at first however the rewards of having a happy and loyal companion are undeniably worth it.

  1. Be a good leader

Every dog is unique with their own adorable quirks, but one thing most dogs love is being a part of the family. While dog owners love to shower their furry friends with affection, there are times you also need to train them to be a part of the ‘pack.’ This includes training them, engaging in activities and reinforcing good behaviour.

  1. Take your dog for walks or hikes to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors

One way to ensure your pup feels like a respected member of the pack is by taking them on walks with you. When you take your dog for walks, hikes, or runs outside they are getting both physical and mental exercise. They get to explore new smells and sights while also having the opportunity to chase little critters (if they see any). You can even make it a bit of game by finding different scents like eucalyptus, vegetation, dirt, etc.

  1. Teach your pup tricks and play fun, interactive games with them

If you're looking for a way to spend some quality time with your pup, then teaching them tricks is an excellent option. Dogs need mental stimulation as much as physical exercise and you can combine both by playing some fun games with your dogs.

Have patience; it may take weeks or months before they get the hang of it but over time obedience will come naturally.

  1. Give them plenty of toys to keep them busy while you're away from home

Dogs need to be entertained and distracted when their owners leave. People often forget that leaving a dog home alone for too long can lead to destructive behavior and anxiety. The problem with this is that without something to do they will either get bored or destructive.

A common mistake that dog owners make is forgetting to give their pet enough toys. It's important to give your pup plenty of toys that will keep them busy while you're away from home so they don’t get bored or lonely. To avoid this, provide your pup with all sorts of puzzles and toys to play with while you're gone.

For added enjoyment for your dog, try filling some of these toys with treats on the inside so that when they figure out how to get the goodies out, they'll associate opening things up with getting a tasty reward.

  1. Make sure they given quality, healthy treats to reinforce good behaviour

Giving treats is an essential part of positive reinforcement needed for forming a strong bond with your furry companion. Firstly, know what your dog likes. Dogs have different tastes so it is important that you find out what kind of treats your dog prefers before giving them anything new. It could be crunchy treats or softer ones depending on the texture they like most.

Next, make sure the treats are healthy for dogs too. There are many items at local pet stores that can be given as long as they meet specific requirements such as not containing any corn products (which can cause stomach upset).

Just like humans, dogs require both physical and mental exercise to help with their health and emotional wellbeing. These tips will ensure that you and your four-legged friend create a strong bond while also taking care of their mental and physical health.
